Making wedding dreams come true at Royal Resorts

Meet Fernanda, our Wedding & Events Coordinator, she and her team create incredible moments for the couples that choose Royal Resorts as their wedding venue.

Fernanda, our Wedding & Events Coordinator

Originally from Mexico City, Fernanda has lived in Cancun for 24 years and has worked for Royal Resorts for five years. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Catering and Administration from the Universidad del Caribe, a Destination Wedding diploma from the Universidad Anahuac and is a certified Wedding Planner (INIBEP). “What drew me to the world of wedding and event planning are the creativity and inspiration and all the details involved in making the day perfect,” says Fernanda. “You work to make the wedding something the bride has always dreamed of and always go that extra mile in customer service to ensure that everything is impeccable and exceeds the couple’s expectations.”

“When a couple contacts us about getting married at Royal Resorts, first we check their dates and ensure that there is room availability at the resorts to accommodate their guests. We then talk to the bride to see what she has in mind for the ceremony, reception, flowers and other wedding services,” explains Fernanda. “Most brides reserve their wedding with us a year in advance and during this time we are in regular contact with them to offer support and answer any questions that they may have. Some have a specific idea of what their dream wedding should look like and we work with them to make it a reality. Other brides select one of our packages. If a bride is not sure what sort of ceremony and reception she would like, we show her photos of the services and locations we offer and weddings that we have planned in the past to help her with a dash of inspiration.”

“When the couple arrives at the resort, the wedding team welcomes them and goes over the details of their event,” says Fernanda. “And we are there for anything they might need in the runup to their big day.”

“The wedding package that we recommend the most is the Our Dream Wedding as it includes the ceremony, flowers for the bride and groom, photos, the Beautiful Bride makeup and hair package, cocktail hour with drinks and canapes and a private reception featuring a three-course menu and four hours of domestic open bar service. It is the perfect option for up to 50 guests,” adds Fernanda. “However, if a bride wants a more intimate wedding with her family, we can arrange a dinner in one of our restaurants after the ceremony.”

The Weddings and Events team can work with all the bride’s ideas, inspiration and mood boards and add their talent to create a customized wedding. Fernanda says, “Sometimes it can be a quite a challenge matching the bride’s wishes with a Cancun setting, for example, some brides ask us for wedding bouquets of peonies and they are not available locally, they would have to be imported, which elevates the cost. In such cases, we can suggest alternatives and show the flowers that are available locally or that can be shipped from central Mexico. We ask the bride to be as specific as possible about her wishes, sending photos of the things that inspire her, and also the budget she has.

Other services that are available as add-ons include floral décor and design of the venue, DJ, dance floor, personalized playlist, live music from a violinist, guitarist or saxophone player to a band and wedding favors. Fernanda says, “We have arranged everything from ice cream carts to a confetti cascade, bubbles and piñatas for the guests to break open during the party. We have ordered wooden fans, keyrings and bottles of tequila for wedding guests and a surprise video transmission for people who were unable to travel so that they can still be part of the event. If a bride decides she would like a Mexican wedding with everything from cuisine and music to décor, table runners and floral centerpieces to folk art as wedding favors, we could do it; we are very detail-oriented.”

Fernanda adds, “I think that Royal Resorts has such a friendly family ambiance, that it is the perfect place to get married surrounded by your family and friends. Many of our brides are the daughters, sisters or nieces of members. Some of them have told me that they grew up vacationing here and that when they were little girls they decided that they would get married at the resorts.  We also have some spectacular settings. The Royal Sands is on Cancun’s finest beach and the colors of the sky at sunset are breathtaking. There are beachfront terraces for up to 60 guests, and for a larger wedding, we have the sophisticated venue of Gran Salon Hacienda Sisal. The La Palapa terrace overlooking the beach at The Royal Cancun is lovely, with classic Mexican Caribbean ambiance.  At The Royal Haciendas in the Riviera Maya, we have a secluded terrace that is beautiful, with the architectural elements and timeless elegance of a hacienda, ideal for a Mexican wedding. Grand Residences by Royal Resorts is magnificent for a luxury celebration in paradise.”

“Our passion is service, and attention to detail to make sure everything is perfect and the occasion unforgettable,” says Fernanda, “We are with the bride and groom every step of the way prior to their event and on the big day when we put months of planning into practice. We are always calm, it is important to be confident and reassure the happy couple. I always say to the bride, ‘take a deep breath and enjoy it, it’s your big day. We will take care of everything for you.’ A wedding planner’s bag is always full of things we might need on the day, from clips and safety pins to needles and thread, handkerchiefs, a hair brush and comb and makeup so that the bride looks wonderful for the photos. We can get additional flowers to refresh the bridal bouquet and in the case of nerves before the ceremony, we can rustle up a mimosa or a shot of tequila.”

“The largest wedding we have hosted to date has been for 100 guests,” says Fernanda, “and we have had wedding groups from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Venezuela. In some cases, the bride or groom is from the U.S. and her/his fiancé from Mexico or from Brazil or another South American country and it might be the first time their respective families meet.”

If the bride and groom want to add some more fun to the occasion, pre-wedding services are available ranging from welcome cocktails and dinners for family and friends to spa discounts and a catamaran cruise or day trip arranged through the travel agency.

“My message to couples thinking about getting married at Royal Resorts is that you are in the best of hands,” says Fernanda. “We want you to feel at home and enjoy yourselves with your family and friends as you start your journey through life together. Leave the details to us and let us take care of you. We will help you create beautiful memories that you will treasure.”
