Your Favorite Mexican Meal?

chilenogadaIn a recent Forbes Magazine survey of the world’s best cities for dining, travelers from 20 nations ranked Mexico City fourth behind Paris, Rome and Tokyo, another reminder that it is well and truly on the restaurant map. However, as seasoned visitors and patriotic locals will tell you, wherever you go in this great country, delicious and diverse dining awaits you. Although the most popular dishes in this poll were tamales, chiles en nogada (stuffed Poblano chiles served in a creamy walnut sauce and topped with pomegranate seeds) and hot chocolate, the list is endless and each region has its own tasty offerings! In fact, there is so much variety that food historians and gourmets are lobbying to get the national cuisine declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

What are your favorite Mexican dishes? Do you like soft shell tacos filled with beef, guacamole and spicy salsa, the subtle flavor of the mole or chicken in chocolate-chile sauce served at Hacienda Sisal, or are you an enchilada fan? Or perhaps the very thought of fish, shrimp and lobster al mojo de ajo (in garlic butter) fresh from the grill in Captain’s Cove makes your mouth water. Let us know about the recipes that get your thumbs up at Royal Resorts.

Dear Philip & Connie: Stay posted for the Chicken Lime Soup recipe, although you will have to come down to Cancun for the real authentic taste and the limas. Thank you for your comment about our tortuguitas, they are incredible.

We love the palapa at the Mayan the best of all! We have gone to the Royals for 20 years and our favorite dish is one that used to be on the menu there – beef brochettes with yellow rice and sauteed mixed vegetables. Our favorite server, Alejo, asks the chef to make it for us each time we visit. The brochettes with the tang of bacon and fresh vegetables are the best I’ve had anywhere!!!

My husband and I LOVE the shrimp ceviche!! We can not get enough of it and have tried to find a comparable ceviche in local restaurants here, to no avail. We order it once every day while we are in Cancun. We have a timeshare at the Royal Sands and have another timeshare which we trade in for one of the other “Royals”. We would really appreciate the recipe for shrimp ceviche. All of the Royal food is good-we have never found anything we didn’t enjoy. Diane & Monte Thornburg

When are you going to print the recipe for the Chicken lime soup and the Black Bean soup. We have spent two weeks in June for the past 18 years in Cancun and it is never to hot to eat the soup.
