Construction is progressing well at the Grand Residences site south of Puerto Morelos, the service area, motor lobby-main public building and the buildings where the villas are located are taking shape, for example beachfront Building 1 is now up to the fourth floor. The first phase of the resort is slated for opening in December 2013.
As with the other Royal Resorts properties, offices, kitchens and other service areas will be below ground level, beneath the public areas and as building advances the level of the ground floor will be raised considerably.
Grand Residences is being developed in compliance with the strictest construction and ecological codes. The site already houses a nursery of well over 80,000 native flowering shrubs and trees that will be transplanted in the Grand Residences gardens. Royal Resorts is also involved in a program to restore and reforest the mangroves behind the property. These wetlands are home to a variety of birds including herons, ibis, cormorants and roseate spoonbills, which nest there in the spring.
