Our first resort The Royal Cancun celebrates 47 years on June 1. One of the earliest resorts in Mexico’s first master-planned destination, it began welcoming members and guests to Caribbean paradise in 1978.
Like the Royal Resorts developers, the builders and the original staff who greeted guests, our first members were intrepid pioneers taking a huge step in a new resort, city and country, embarking on a journey of incredible memories. They discovered pristine beaches in the Riviera Maya, rode on rickety old school buses to the ferry dock at Puerto Juarez, wandered downtown to Cancun’s earliest stores and markets, went snorkeling among huge shoals of silvery fish at local reefs, and ventured out to explore the ancient cities of the Maya.
The first members at The Royal Cancun were among the first in the world to enjoy timeshare, a revolutionary new concept of vacationing, in this case instilled with the warmest Mexican hospitality and a philosophy of excellence that is still a Royal Resorts hallmark.
Since then, thousands of families have fallen in love with the peaceful bayside setting of The Royal Cancun, the palm-lined beach, the Mexican-Mediterranean design, colorful gardens and welcoming ambiance, making it their home away from home.
A morning of sail boating or paddle boarding in the bay, snorkeling in search of bejeweled reef fish and a kayak lagoon tour through the mangrove forest are a great way to spend time at The Royal Cancun. The hours tick by as friends exchange Mexican Caribbean stories poolside under the palms or sit on their villa terrace watching an endless parade of yachts sail through the sparkling turquoise waters of the bay.
A daily activity program, a kids club, tennis courts, a fitness center and a day spa offering massages and more are some of the amenities on offer. The relaxed ambiance, stunning Caribbean views and seafood and international fare at La Palapa make it a favorite and La Trattoria is a popular choice for an evening of traditional Italian cuisine to share with family or friends. New this season for members and guests to enjoy, an evening Beach BBQ in Phase 2, Art & Dine, a fun afternoon of painting and wine, and a silent party on the terrace at La Palapa.
