What’s on your Mexican Caribbean summer sightseeing list? Here are four places that you may want to pencil into your must-visit list for your next Royal Resorts vacation.
Playa del Carmen
The Riviera Maya’s lively waterfront capital captivates visitors with beautiful palm-lined beaches, rustic chic waterfront bars and ancient temples. Quinta Avenida, the main thoroughfare is the place for shopping, world cuisine and live music. Have a beach afternoon in the Riviera Maya and then call into Playa on the way back to your resort, sip a cocktail, find your favorite gelateria, enjoy a meal and then get ready to join Playa’s very own passeggiata along ‘La Quinta’ as soon as the sun goes down.
Punta Maroma
Time spent on this lovely Riviera Maya beach is always well worth it. Once voted one of the world’s top beaches, it has featured in many an international travel magazine. Enjoy the view of endless white sand and a dip in the crystalline waters. If you want to try your hand at water sports, Thomas More Travel will be able to arrange some Maroma adventures for you at the local marina.
Valladolid
If you are planning a visit to the ancient Maya city of Chichen Itza, be sure to stop in Valladolid on the way or your return journey. This peaceful pueblo magico is full of history and traditions. Stroll around the main square to the 17th-century San Servacio Cathedral and along Calzada de Los Frailes, the street leading to San Bernardino Church and Sisal Convent. You’ll pass restored casonas or mansions, some of which have been converted into boutique hotels, restaurants and craft shops. Visit the atmospheric Zaci Cenote in town and Dzitnup Cenote, a short drive away.
Akumal
A palm-lined beach with gentle waves, thatched roof palapa bars and restaurants and offshore reefs that are popular for diving and snorkeling, Akumal is a Riviera Maya highlight. Its name means “place of the turtles” in Maya and you will see them everywhere: in the water grazing on sea grass or swimming among the corals, and as inspiration for statues, signs, jewelry, folk art, t-shirts and paintings.
Explore the Yucatan
Thomas More Travel can help you arrange trips to these spots and to all the natural and historical wonders in the Mexican Caribbean and Yucatan. Visit the website or the travel desk in the lobby of your resort.
