Travel & Leisure magazine published the results of its annual reader survey to find the world’s best hotels, transportation, cruise lines, islands and cities to visit and there was great news for Mexico. Readers voted colonial treasure San Miguel de Allende the World’s Top City. They love its beautiful 16th and 17th-century architecture, flower-filled cobblestoned streets and squares, rich traditions and ambiance. Another colonial gem and UNESCO World Heritage Site Oaxaca is also in the list, in sixth position.
Mexico City and Merida also feature in the Best Cities to visit in Mexico and Central America category.
