Founded in 2000 and located on the outskirts of Cancun, the Ciudad de la Alegria or City of Joy is a charitable institution comprising a hospice, orphanage, school, clinic, women’s refuge, old folks home, food distribution center and meeting rooms for counseling sessions. Since 2007, the Royal Resorts Foundation has given $292,000 pesos to the center to help improve the lives of the poorest and most vulnerable members of our society.
Scholarships for Students
Despite universal access to public primary and secondary education in Mexico, many children still lack schooling or drop out of school to help support their families. The causes are many and include extreme poverty, migration, language barriers, a disturbed family background and other social problems. In 2009, the Ciudad de la Alegria opened the Mano Amiga nursery and school to give children from low-income households in marginalized areas an education and the opportunity for a better life.
Thanks to donations from local benefactors, the Mano Amiga School now has 1,050 students on its roll, with your support we can reach out to more children.
