No change to Royal Resorts Club Service Fees for 2017

This year’s Advisory Council meetings have concluded and Royal Resorts is please to announce that there will be no change in the member Club Service Fees for 2017. This is the third year running that they will stay the same at all the resorts.

Representatives of the Advisory Boards for The Royal Sands, The Royal Islander, The Royal Haciendas and The Royal Caribbean met with Resort Management and Finance Department representatives in October to review the operating costs during 2016 and the proposed resort budgets for 2017.

Royal Resorts is always looking for ways to improve the vacation experience of its members and guests by adding activities and services and amenities in the villas whenever possible. As a result of savings generated by a currency rate windfall caused by the fluctuation of the peso during 2016, it was able to incorporate a number of new features at the resorts that we hope members will enjoy.

Click here for details of the 2017 Club Service Fee (member log in required) for your resort and a list of improvements and new amenities to look forward too on your next visit to your home away from home.

The Advisory Council meeting reports and financial tables will be published in the Members Area of the Royal Resorts website (member log in required) www.royalresorts.com in the weeks to come and in your annual magazine Royal Resorts Life which is published in December. A complimentary copy of the magazine will be waiting for you in your villa during your next visit and an online edition will also be available.

What does the Club Service Fee cover?

The annual maintenance fee or Club Service Fee that you pay for your interval covers the upkeep of your resort and the following services and activities:

  • Maintenance and replacement of furniture and appliances in the villas due to wear and tear
  • Landscaping and gardening
  • Utilities
  • 24-hour Front Desk
  • 24-hour security
  • Maid service (except Sundays and official Mexican holidays)
  • Floodlit tennis courts and use of tennis rackets
  • Sports desk and snorkeling gear, bicycles, sailboats and/or kayaks
  • Activities organized by the Social Activities Team
  • High-speed Wi-Fi
  • Professional resort management

Which Resort services and activities are not covered by the Club Service Fee?

Your Club Service Fee does not cover the restaurants and bars, shops, the tour desk, spa, gym or social events such as the Welcome Party and the Taco Party that are organized by the Sales and Marketing department. They are part of resort businesses or sales and marketing programs and have separate budgets:

Not included in your Club Service Fee

  • Concierge Desk and Service
  • Restaurants and bars
  • Spa and gym
  • Tour desk
  • The Royal Market
  • La Paloma Gift Shop
  • Events such as the Welcome Party, weekly Cocktail and Taco Party, which are activities organized and sponsored by the Sales and Marketing department

Member Club Service Fees do not pay for expenses relating to the REFINE All-Inclusive Package

The Club Service Fee that members pay does not cover costs associated with All-Inclusive guests staying at The Royal Sands, The Royal Cancun or The Royal Haciendas.

The REFINE All-Inclusive program has a separate operating budget and pays a resort fee of US$2.50 per All-Inclusive guest per day to Resort Operations for extra expenses generated by the program such as the evening turndown service and housekeeping service on Sundays, laundry (bathrobes, linens and towels) and the Kids Club. The resort also receives a Club Service Fee for the rental of each villa to cover the services included in the annual dues.

The Royal Resorts Foundation supports the fight against cancer and partners with Cancun-based NGO Grupo Desafio de Quintana Roo, A.C. to help women on a low income get vital cancer screening and treatment. In October, Cancer Awareness Month, the Foundation donated more than $150,000 pesos to pay for cancer tests for 400 women.

This was the second Royal Resorts Foundation donation this year, in May, Grupo Desafio was able to cover the costs of breast cancer studies for 293 women, including mammography screening, RX, mammary ultrasound testing and bilateral mammograms, as part of its Gift of Life for Women campaign.

Founded in 1999 by a group of women who have fought their own battle with cancer, Grupo Desafio started life as a support network for breast cancer patients. Its mission is now to help all those living with the disease, regardless of sex, age or type of cancer.

In addition to helping women from the poorest sectors of society with cancer screening and treatments, Grupo Desafio seeks to raise cancer awareness by giving seminars on the disease and the importance of early detection in local communities, the workplace, schools and colleges. It also offers self-help and counseling sessions for patients and their families.

During October, Royal Resorts employees wore pink ribbons in observance of Cancer Awareness Month and there were large pink bows on the facades of all the resorts. Cancun Oncology Center doctors gave talks to employees on breast cancer, high risk factors, self-examination and the screening methods available. After the talks at The Royal Haciendas on October 20 and 21, employees bought cancer awareness t-shirts in support of the Royal Resorts Foundation cancer campaign.

Spreading Happiness

Spreading Happiness, the Royal Resorts Foundation Christmas Toy Drive

We are launching our annual Royal Resorts Foundation Toy Drive during the festive season to collect gifts for needy children as part of the Spreading Happiness community campaign. If you are traveling to the Royal Resorts in Cancun or The Royal Haciendas in the Riviera Maya this month or in December, we invite you to join our cause and put a smile on a child’s face.

Our goal is to collect toys for two worthy local causes. First up is to support a mega Christmas party at the Ciudad de la Alegria for 4,000 needy children, which will be held on December 14. Now in its 11th year, the posada or party is known as the Fabrica de Alegria, the “Happiness Factory.” After Christmas we will then surprise children at La Escuelita de Sonia (Sonia’s School) in Alfredo V. Bonfil community with a Spreading Happiness party with toys, games, piñatas filled with candies, cake and other goodies on Dia de Reyes or Three Kings Day, January 6, which is the day that Mexican children traditionally receive gifts.

What can you donate?

  • Plastic balls
  • Cars
  • Tea sets and other kitchen play sets
  • Children’s books (in Spanish)
  • Candies
  • Barbie and similar dolls
  • Soft toys
  • Board games
  • Coloring books and art sets

Please do not donate guns, war games or battery-operated toys

All the big supermarkets and department stores in Downtown Cancun and Playa del Carmen have large and busy toy sections if you are not sure where to buy gifts. If you prefer to contribute to the Toy Drive by making a donation so that the Foundation can buy toys on your behalf, please contact the Duty Manager.

Where to drop off toys

There will be decorated Toy Drive collection boxes in the lobby of your resort and you can also drop off your gifts in Reception, ask for the Guest Services or Operations Manager. The Toy Drive will be open until January 4.

If you are not traveling to Cancun this season and would like to help, the Royal Resorts Foundation accepts donations of educational material, new toys and used clothing (children and adults) in good condition all year round.

Ciudad de la Alegria

Located on the outskirts of Cancun, the Ciudad de la Alegria helps the poor, the sick, the elderly and the most vulnerable members of society. It comprises the Mano Amiga School, which offers education for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, a home for the elderly, a hospice for the terminally ill, a shelter for victims of domestic violence, a food kitchen, clinic and other services.

La Escuelita de Sonia, helping forgotten children

La Escuelita de Sonia was founded 10 years ago by Sonia Cejas Martinez, a mother of three who opened her home and her heart to neighborhood children who for many reasons were not able to go to school. She began to teach one little boy to read and the word soon spread, more and more children flocked there. Gradually her whole house became a classroom and she now welcomes 105 pupils on a daily basis. After a nutritious and filling breakfast, the children get on with their studies in a fun and safe environment.

The children studying with Sonia come from desperately poor backgrounds and have fallen through the cracks in the system. They may not have the birth certificates needed to register them, the money for uniforms and study materials or parents to enroll them. Some are looking after even younger siblings and are left on their own all day and others have physical, language and behavioral challenges. Sonia’s School gives them the opportunity to learn and they follow a course of studies that will prepare them for the equivalency exam needed to attend a public primary or secondary school. Sonia and her volunteer staff also help children and their parents obtain the documents such as birth certificates and official IDs they will need to integrate into society.

Taste Mexico. On your next Cancun vacation be sure to visit Hacienda Sisal for the new Wine Tasting Dinner featuring the very best of Mexico, the perfect pairing of wines and cuisine from all over the country.

Enjoy sparkling, white, rosé and red wines paired with five delectable courses. The refreshing acidity of a Dubois sparkling wine goes well with a melted cheese and mushroom starter; a Casa Madero Chardonnay is served with a smoked marlin tostada and salad and the richness of pork in a cochinita pibil sope is balanced with a L.A. Cetto rosé. After a refreshing Yucatecan lima sorbet to cleanse the palate, a full-bodied, award-winning Casa Madero Shiraz is served with carnitas and followed by beef fillet in salsa borracha with a Santo Tomas Cabernet Sauvignon. Dessert is a heavenly chocolate crème brûlée set off to perfection by Xtabentun, the Yucatan’s honey-anise liqueur.

The world of Mexican wine

The vineyards participating in the Hacienda Sisal Mexican Wine Dinner are among of the country’s oldest and most famous, the winners of many awards.   Santo Tomas and L.A. Cetto are two of Baja California’s most famous wineries, both located in the Valla de Guadalupe near Ensenada. Located in the Valle de Parras in Coahuila and founded in 1597, Casa Madero is Mexico’s oldest vineyard – and the oldest in the Americas. The Dubois by NV Freixenet sparkling wine is produced in the central state of Queretaro.
