It will also help cut travel times for thousands of Hotel Zone workers.<\/p>\n<h3>Tren Maya<\/h3>\n<p>The Tren Maya regional rail project is a circuit linking the five states in southeast Mexico, bringing more tourists to some of the Maya World\u2019s most famous archaeological sites, natural wonders, colonial towns, Mayan communities and more. The final sections of the railway running through southern Quintana Roo and Campeche linking to Escarcega were completed in December 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Transport services to and from the train stations into the towns on route has been improving and passenger numbers are on the increase, particularly for the most popular stretches \u2013 Cancun-Valladolid, Cancun-Chichen Itza (Piste) and Cancun-Merida and Cancun-Playa del Carmen. Since its inauguration, more than 1.1 million passengers have used the railway. Tourism packages are now being promoted by OTAs such as Expedia and Tren Maya officials are also beginning to reach out to the local tourism sector.<\/p>\n<p>However, the fleet of trains is still not up to full capacity and unlike rail systems in Europe and the United States, departure times are limited to one or two per day at present. This is likely to change in the future as demand continues to increase. At present, Tren Maya is an option for visitors who want to explore southeast Mexico and have plenty of time to do so.<\/p>\n<p>A Tren Maya rail link will be built from Merida to the port of Progreso and the Mexican government announced that the railway will also be used to carry cargo.
