Start the year with a visit to the Riviera Maya\u2019s lively waterfront capital. Spend time on the beach and shopping in the malls, international brand stores, craft galleries and eclectic boutiques on Quinta Avenida. Choose a new flavor of gelato made with local tropical fruit or Mexican chocolate or sip on a coffee and watch the world go by. In the evening, stroll along the La Quinta and take in a world of music and tempting aromas as you decide where to dine or enjoy mixology at a stylish beach club or rooftop bar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whatever the season, a day on the beach at Akumal in the Riviera Maya is always fun for the whole family. This sheltered, palm-lined bay is a favorite for swimming, snorkeling or just unwinding. You may even spot one of the turtles that give the bay its Maya name \u201cplace of the turtles\u201d and you\u2019ll find plenty of turtle-inspired art in the craft shops and galleries behind the beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking in the breathtaking views of the Caribbean from this ancient clifftop city is the perfect way to start the year. Listen to the breeze and the cries of the birds and savor the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How about a day at the Yucatan\u2019s famous Maya metropolis and World Heritage Site? The discoveries continue here as archaeologists painstakingly restore ancient temples and palaces in the forest and you learn more about the city\u2019s history, its rulers and their subjects by visiting the new site museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
