Playa Norte, Isla Mujeres<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Just a 20-minute boat ride away from Cancun, Isla Mujeres boasts several beautiful beaches but the jewel in the crown is Playa Norte. This swathe of white sand bathed by impossibly turquoise waters is a magnet for sun lovers who while away the hours on sun beds or at bars under the palm trees. Go snorkeling, watch the yachts sail past and stay on for spectacular sunsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Puerto<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Puerto Morelos<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Spend the day in Puerto Morelos, the atmospheric fishing village that is the gateway to the Riviera Maya. Find a palapa for some beach time or go snorkeling along the offshore reefs.  Cool off with a gelato in the main square and enjoy fresh seafood for lunch along the waterfront. If you have run out of beach books, browse the shelves at Alma Libre bookstore, you\u2019ll find everything from the latest thrillers and romances to Booker and Pulitzer prize winning novels, classics, sci-fi and fantasy and children\u2019s books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a fun day of jungle adventures with the family, visit Selvatica or one of the cenote parks in the forest along the Ruta de los Cenotes or Crococun and explore the Botanical Garden.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ik-kil Cenote<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

If you are Chichen Itza-bound this month, why not call in at Ik-Kil Cenote after your visit to the archaeological site for a cooling dip in this beautiful cenote? It is a deep sinkhole rather like the Sacred Well at Chichen Itza and its limestone walls are festooned with jungle creepers and aerial tree roots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kaan Luum Lagoon<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Kaan Luum is a turquoise lagoon in the jungle just to the south of Tulum. You can swim from the wooden deck and there are ojos de agua or freshwater springs \u2013 the zones of darker blue and deeper water \u2013 in parts of the lagoon. They bubble up towards the surface from underground rivers and cenotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organized day trips to Kaan Luum also include visits to the nearby Mariposa and Chen-Ha cenotes and to a Maya community to learn about the ancient tradition of bee keeping and the Melipona stingless bee native to the Yucatan, and cacao cultivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
