With the discovery of human bones in the house, she stumbles across an old crime, a history of land disputes and a mysterious disappearance.<br \/>\nHetty\u2019s story is interwoven with the story of Beatrice, Theo\u2019s young wife, who first visited the island in 1910. As she looks at Theo Blake\u2019s evocative paintings of dramatic landscapes, birds and a wild young girl, the daughter of a local crofter. Hetty begins to piece together a story of lost love, misunderstandings and sadness.<\/p>\n<p><b><em>Rosie: Scenes from a Vanished Life<\/em><\/b><br \/>\nRose Tremain<br \/>\nThe award-winning author of <em>Restoration<\/em>, <em>Music &amp; Silence<\/em>, <em>The Road Home<\/em>, <em>The Colour<\/em> and the <em>Gustav Sonata<\/em> writes about her childhood in post-war London. This is an absorbing account of holidays on her grandparents\u2019 estate in rural Hampshire, of a city life of austerity and rationing and the shock of separation from family at an early age. She writes of loneliness and a sense of loss when she is sent away to boarding school.
