{"id":52638,"date":"2013-12-23T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2013-12-23T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/royalresorts.com\/blog\/cancun-underwater-sculpture-museum-reaches-500\/"},"modified":"2021-11-16T06:00:05","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T06:00:05","slug":"cancun-underwater-sculpture-museum-reaches-500","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.royalresorts.com\/blog\/january-2014\/cancun-underwater-sculpture-museum-reaches-500\/","title":{"rendered":"Cancun Underwater Sculpture Museum Reaches 500"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In recent months, British sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor and several collaborating artists installed additional statues in the Punta Nizuc gallery of the Cancun Underwater Sculpture Museum, bringing the total to 500.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nMany of the older statues in the museum are already being colonized by sponges, corals and other marine creatures and have become a refuge for young fish, which is an encouraging sign as one of the reasons for creating the museum was to alleviate some of the pressure on local reefs and allow corals and fish populations to recuperate.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nIn other news, the Museum now has an exhibition space on dry land for visitors who wish to learn about the museum, the largest of its kind in the world, without getting wet.\u00a0 Located in Kukulc\u00e1n Plaza, the gallery features life-size replicas of some of the statues, displays showing how the sculptures are created and maps showing the location of the underwater galleries at Manchones Reef and Punta Nizuc.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nSnorkeling and diving trips to the Underwater Museum are available through <a href=\"http:\/\/thomasmoretravel.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Thomas More Travel<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a name=\"xcaret-group\" style=\"text-decoration:none !important;\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In recent months, British sculptor Jason de Caires Taylor and several collaborating artists installed additional statues in the Punta Nizuc gallery of the Cancun Underwater Sculpture Museum, bringing the total to 500. &nbsp;
