For those of you who have used traveler\u2019s checks when vacationing in Mexico in the past, we would like to inform you that Royal Resorts is no longer accepting US dollar traveler\u2019s checks.<\/p>\n
This is due to important banking sector reforms in the United States now affecting financial institutions in Mexico and many other countries. US bank regulations controlling overseas dollar payments form part of the Federal Government\u2019s ongoing crackdown on money laundering and were recently tightened further. Many US banks are no longer offering US dollar traveler\u2019s checks and their international banking partners are being forced to take measures accordingly.<\/p>\n
The bank Royal Resorts uses for dollar payments and deposits has informed us that it is no longer accepting US dollar traveler\u2019s checks. Upon further investigation we found this to be the case in other banks and bureaus de change in Mexico. As a result and effective immediately, we regret that Royal Resorts will not be able to accept traveler\u2019s checks in US dollars.<\/p>\n
This change only applies to US dollar traveler\u2019s checks. Traveler\u2019s checks in Canadian dollar, Euro, British pounds and Swiss Francs are not<\/strong> affected by this ruling.<\/p>\n Furthermore, Mexican banks can no longer accept checks in US dollars drawn from banks in the United States. This rule does not apply to checks in US dollars drawn from banks outside the United States, for example in Canadian or European financial institutions.<\/p>\n As an alternative to US dollar traveler\u2019s checks, we would like to remind you that there are ATMs at local banks and Visa, Master Card and American Express are widely accepted.
