April 20 marks the 50th birthday of Cancun, however our beautiful destination is at a standstill when it should be celebrating its first half-century. Instead of the events and parades planned, Cancun residents will honor it with a moment of quiet reflection and thoughts on what we can all do to make our young city even better for visitors and inhabitants alike.
The beaches are looking more beautiful than ever and with days of clear skies, we have had some spectacular sunsets recently. A huge leatherback turtle, the largest and rarest of the four turtle species that nests in the Mexican Caribbean came ashore on Playa Delfines to lay its eggs and there are reports of shy jungle birds being sighted in urban parks that have been closed to the public. Cancun has shown tremendous resilience over the years and we look forward to celebrating many more of its birthdays together on the shores of the Mexican Caribbean. In the meantime, wherever you may be, raise a glass and wish Cancun and its people well.
