Member News from The Royal Haciendas®

In response to many requests from members at The Royal Haciendas and in the understanding that it will be beneficial to members and guests without incurring additional expense, Royal Resorts has decided to implement a pilot program to permit two children under the age of 12 to stay in the “B” side of the villas with their parents. The trial period will run from February 4, 2012 to February 2, 2013 and requests must be received in writing prior to travel.
This means that in addition to the six people permitted in the full villa, members at The Royal Haciendas may bring three additional guests without extra charge, as long as one of them is aged 16 or under and the other two are under the age of 12. This exception to the rule only applies to The Royal Haciendas.

Extra Guest Charge for Nonmembers

We would like to draw your attention to a change in the rate for bringing an extra person, which will apply only to nonmembers. Effective February 4, 2012, the special use fee levied when nonmembers bring an additional person to stay with them above and beyond the normal occupancy limits permitted at Royal Resorts® will be increased to $35 US per day. The rate for members who bring an extra guest will remain the same, $25 US per day.
The occupancy limits are six people in the case of the villa (five in the “B” type villas at The Royal Cancun®), four people for the one-bedroom suite and two people for the room. The special use fee is levied for a seventh person and is applicable for guests over the age of 16.

Replacement Membership Cards Now Available

Please be informed that new personalized membership cards for the five resorts in Cancun are now being printed and are available on request from Interval Servicing Co. at a cost of $5 US.
As members may remember, Proximity microchip card readers were installed for the villa door locks at the Cancun resorts in 2010. One of the benefits of this upgrade was that key cards would no longer demagnetize, thus eradicating a problem that many members and guests had experienced in the past. However, we were advised that the existing personalized member cards would be incompatible with the new technology. Replacement cards were ordered in 2010 but the batches received were substandard and a lengthy delay ensued due to technical and printing problems.
Replacement cards are available for the Cancun resorts, not The Royal Haciendas.
The $5 US charge for replacement cards will be valid throughout 2012. Members wishing to order cards should contact Interval Servicing Co. You may place your request by phone Tel. 1-800-930-5050 (US & Canada), 001-800-930-5050 (Mexico), 954-485-5400 (Rest of the World); Fax: 954-730-9647 or email: membershipcards@intervalservicing.com You need to provide your Membership/Contract number, Name on the card, Villa and Interval.
The Annual Club Service Fee covers the generic club cards but not the personalized member cards.

The Royal Cancun Villa Refurbishment Program

In the 2012 edition of Royal Resorts Life, p. 12 in the Resort News section, it states that the remaining 34 villas will be refurbished in 2012. We regret to inform you that it will not be possible to complete this project in 2012 and work will be completed in 2013.

Royal Resorts Foundation

Members often ask us how they can give something back to the community where they have enjoyed so many happy years; well they might like to join the Royal Resorts Foundation (Fundación Royal Resorts A.C.) in supporting four very worthy causes:

  • Conservation of the Mayan jungle and wildlife
  • Scholarships for children from low-income households
  • Cancer awareness, providing screening and treatment for those in need
  • Employee Relief Fund, help for staff in times of grave illness, accidents or emergencies

Green Resorts

In May 2011, The Royal Mayan®, The Royal Caribbean®, The Royal Islander® and The Royal Cancun® were certified by the Mesoamerican Reef Tourism Initiative (MARTI) as resorts with eco-friendly policies. This means that all six Royal Resorts properties have now achieved this goal.

MARTI seeks to protect the Mesoamerican Reef, the world’s second longest coral reef, by implementing better environmental practices to reduce pollution and minimize the impact of tourism on area ecosystems.

Royal Resorts continues to look for ways to protect the planet, make more efficient use of natural resources and reduce its carbon footprint and we post updates on our green initiatives on www.royalresortsnews.com »

Cost Efficiency Program

Royal Resorts works hard to maintain standards and to make improvements at the resorts while also keeping costs down wherever possible. We are mindful of the considerable sacrifice that members make to travel to their Mexican home and the impact that rising maintenance fees, airfares and other expenses have on your incomes, and we are always looking for ways to reduce expenditure and control operating costs. OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION

The 2011 Royal Resorts Advisory Council reports and financial statements are now available online.

The Advisory Council meetings took place in Cancun October 24 – 26 and once the reports are compiled, they are reviewed by a number of departments to ensure accuracy before being published.

Before consulting the Advisory Council report for your resort, we recommend that you read the General Introduction as it discusses the economic factors taken into account when preparing the budgets and assessing the Club Service Fee. It also mentions the General Meeting and the guest speaker Dr. Jonathan Heath, who gave an interesting presentation on the economic outlook for Mexico.

The reports for The Royal Mayan, The Royal Caribbean, The Royal Islander and The Royal Sands give details of the improvements completed at the resorts during 2011, the projects approved for 2012 and the income statements. The resort operating budgets for The Royal Cancun and The Royal Haciendas are also included.

The Advisory Council reports will also be published in the printed and electronic editions of Royal Resorts Life, the annual magazine for Royal Resorts members, both of which will be available later this month.

2011 & 2012 Club Service Fees »

Are you interested in serving on the Advisory Council of your Resort?

Are you interested in representing the interests of your fellow members as an Advisory Council representative? Each Club has its own Advisory Council comprised of five members who each serve a five-year term. Duties of this group include the review of financial statements for the current year's operations at the club, all reports presented by the Resort Management relative to the maintenance and operation of the club, the projected budgets for the following year and proposed Club Service Fees to be paid per interval based upon the reviewed budget for the club. They also study maintenance and fixed assets programs, proposals for new services and amenities, cost-efficiency projects, policies, insurance, occupancy and currency exchange issues, "In Search of Excellence" quality reports, and much more.

Advisory Council members must be available for a weeklong meeting each year in Cancun (generally during interval 42) and remain members in good standing within the club they serve and any other clubs they are members of. In a commitment to foster participation by the largest number of Royal Resorts members, and because of the extremely high interest for these positions, members may only serve a single five-year term in a lifetime.

To be eligible to stand for election to the Advisory Council, the following requisites apply:

  • You must have been a member of Royal Resorts for at least three years.
  • You must be a member in good standing at your club and any others that you are a member of.
  • You must have two or more weeks at the club you wish to represent or one at your home club and one at a sister club.
  • You must have purchased your interval directly from Royal Resorts and not through a resale or title change.
  • You must be at least 30 years old.
  • You must specify which club you would like to represent, particularly if you own multiple weeks at several clubs.
  • You must submit your résumé with details of current and past employment, your educational background, community work and other career information. The said document will be kept in our files for three years. At the end of this time, if you still wish to be considered you will need to send an updated résumé.

The following restrictions apply:

  • Candidates who have been members of an Advisory Council or any similar body at a different timeshare resort or vacation club or one of the sister clubs are ineligible.
  • Any person who is serving or has served as a shareholder, Director employee, or a creditor, debtor or supplier or has any interest in the Membership Company, Developer, the Operating Company or the sister clubs, except for such person's interest as a Club Member, shall be ineligible to serve on said Advisory Council.
  • Any person who is or has been a party to any legal action, has made a claim or has, in any way, participated in an interest adverse to the Advisory Council, the Membership Company, the Developer, the Operating Company, any sister club or any member, Director or officer of the same, shall be ineligible to serve on said Council.
  • Any person who has been convicted of a felony within a five-year period prior to application to serve on the Advisory Council shall be deemed ineligible to serve.
  • Any person who has participated in any scandalous business incident within a five-year period prior to application to serve on the Advisory Council shall be deemed ineligible to serve.

Sending your Résumé

If you would like to be considered for this important role please send a copy of your résumé with a covering letter stating why you would like to stand for the Advisory Council to the Interval Servicing Company office in Fort Lauderdale. Each year the most senior member "retires" from the Council and one new member is selected by each club's Advisory Council members. Resumes must be received by July 31 to be considered in that calendar year. Interested members should send their questions or résumé to:

Old Résumés on File

If you submitted your résumé more than three years ago and are still interested in being a candidate, we would be grateful if you could send an updated version with details of your life and career changes and a letter of interest specifying your villa number and resort(s) you own at, your membership number and the resort you would like to apply for. Only current Royal Resorts members in good standing may be considered.

Non-Member Check In Policy

When registering, nonmember renters, exchangers and guests will be asked for a deposit of $10,500 pesos per week (the equivalent of $1,500 pesos a day) if they are staying in the villa. The deposit is $7,000 pesos for the suite ($1,000 pesos a day) and $3,500 pesos for the room ($500 pesos a day), respectively. The deposit can be made in Mexican pesos or dollars using the daily exchange rate or by pre-authorizing a credit card voucher and it will enable guests to charge meals and purchases to their villa. In the event that guests exceed the credit limit, they should visit the Front Desk to extend it.

Guests who do not charge any purchases or meals to their villa will have their full deposit reimbursed by the Front Desk clerk at the end of their stay. If they made some purchases, they will receive the remainder of their deposit after charges have been deducted. Cash will be returned if a cash deposit was made and signed credit card vouchers will be cancelled.

This policy applies to nonmembers only and is in effect at all our resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
