The Annual Elizabeth Norman Sutton Charity Golf Tournament will be held in Cancun on June 9, 10 and 11, 2008. The organizers are expecting a record turnout for the tenth anniversary of this popular event which attracts lady amateur golf players from all over Mexico, the United States, Asia and beyond.
Organized by Royal Resorts, the tournament honors the memory of Elizabeth Sutton, wife of Richard D. Sutton, one of the Royal Resorts developers. After her death in 1998, a trust was founded in her name to support local charities and institutions. Over the years, the tournament winners have presented checks to the Cancun General Hospital and the Grupo Desafio de Quintana Roo cancer awareness program among others.

The annual tournament falls in Elizabeth Sutton's birth month, and honors the vitality and spirit of a lady who enjoyed the game of golf as much as she enjoyed her life and friends in Cancun.
Mrs. Sutton also appreciated the beauty of the course, always noticing a new orchid in bloom, a tree changing color, and the birds. Her favorite bird was a Chestnut-Bellied Heron that would stand quietly around the green on the fifth hole. He was very dignified and proved to be a good gallery, standing still as Betty and her friends putted in. Over time he came to be called Betty's and that is why he is now the logo for her tournament.
Organized by Marina Elizondo, Linda Schwarz, Reyna Soriano and Julieta Sanchez, golfing and personal friends of Mrs. Sutton, the tournament offers lady golfers an opportunity to play in Cancun while competing for a variety of prizes and the tournament trophy.
In memory of Elizabeth Sutton and in appreciation of her home for over 20 years, a trust has been established to support the charities of Cancún. This year, $40,000 US will be available for distribution by the tournament winners.
